Author Jennifer Irwin Sets Out to Erase Fear at EmpowerCon 2019
After single-handedly amassing a social media following of over 60,000 followers and writing a multi award-winning novel, Jennifer Irwin will share her life story and the story she has created, in an attempt to inspire others to erase the fear that is holding their dreams back.
“The only thing that stops us from doing what we really want to do in life is fear,” proclaims Irwin.
Irwin would go on to point out that she started her career as an author late in life, but she refused to let age or any other factors hinder her passionate pursuit of being a successful writer. Whether it be marketing online for four hours a day everyday or dealing with flaky business partners, Irwin has taken every punch being an indie author has to throw her way.
“You can’t drop the ball, it’s a hustle,” Irwin smoothly sums up.
The story she hustled behind, “A Dress the Color of the Sky”, has proven to be worth it, as it has racked up over 100 five-star reviews on Amazon and impacted countless lives. From men opening up about their own childhood trauma to women coming to terms with their sexual assault, the healing framework of the novel has allowed Irwin to touch countless lives.
“I never thought that my book would touch so many lives,” describes Irwin. “It is extremely touching for me that people find this character[Prudence]so easy to relate to.”
“A Dress the Color of the Sky” follows the main character, Prudence, a sex addict in the midst of a failed marriage, as she revisits the trauma of her childhood to make sense of the toxic situation she is in today. Prudence’s story leaves an everlasting impact on all those who come in contact with it, including the person who created the story.
“I brought a lot of the pain of my childhood into my adult life,” recalls Irwin. “I realized I had to heal from my childhood, and I hadn’t come to grips with a lot of things that happened to me when I was a kid.”
With a childhood that consisted of an alcoholic, drug addict birth father, and an abusive step-father, Irwin points out that many of the traumatic flashbacks in the novel are real events she has actually had to live with, but, in the same breath, she preaches forgiveness.
“I loved my parents, but they made their mistakes just like I made my mistakes,” says Irwin. “We’re not perfect. You have to learn to forgive yourself for things.”
Irwin is currently working on book two of the trilogy, in which she details the life of Prudence post-therapy. Irwin will be signing copies of “A Dress the Color of the Sky”, as well as providing advice on self-marketing and personal branding at EmpowerCon 2019.
