Despite coronavirus causing her and her family to be self-isolated, Aalia Lanius’ journey as an author gets more and more exciting as her second novel Jugend continues receiving worldwide recognition. While the global pandemic COVID19 has impeded her husband’s recent movie production, the family received notification that Jugend has recently been honored as a recipient of the 2020 Book Excellence Award in the category of multicultural fiction. Released in 2019, the novel has already received the Multicultural Literature Fiction novel of 2019 award and 2019 Bronze Medal in the Readers’ Favorite Fiction-Cultural category, proving Lanius’ ability to create a story that draws the support of peers in the literature world.

Jugend is a historical fiction novel that bravely addresses a number of socially sensitive topics such as white supremacy, white terrorism, and islamophobia in an unapologetic manner. The novel showcases the social evils regularly faced by the multicultural people and provides a strong message against the hateful rhetoric. In today’s stereotypical cultural climate, the author has dared to take on the tough issues and create a story that speaks about humanity.

In German, the word Jugend means “youth”. The author has rightly used this title to share the parallel tales of two young subjects, one in the backdrop of the Nazi movements and another in the present-day United States.

Much before becoming an author, Aalia Lanius has been a social entrepreneur and an advocate for communities to be brought together.  She is the founder of Unsugarcoated Media, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit media social enterprise dedicated to empowering, supporting, and improving outcomes for people trying to deal with tough and challenging issues in everyday life. She is also the creator of the one-day empowerment event called EmpowerCon that was launched at the Los Angeles Convention Center in August 2019. All proceeds from the book will go to the nonprofit, to serve the community with live events and content in an effort to create positive change in society.

“It is important for me that people are aware that when they support this book, they aren’t just supporting me as an author, but with every purchase they are directly helping Unsugarcoated Media create events and content that positively impact our society. It’s socially conscious reading because all profits go back to charity,” said Lanius.

Jugend currently has a 4.9 out of 5 rating on Amazon Book Reviews and 4.2 out of 5 rating on Goodreads .  The novel has also received several acclaims from critics all over the world.

According to the originator of the billion dollar Batman film franchise, Michael Uslan, “If you’re talking about real-life empowerment, forget Wonder Woman, BatGirl, or Captain Marvel and follow Aalia Lanius on podcasts, on-line, in articles and books, and at her EmpowerCons around the world! Inspiring, motivating, impactful… she is my super-hero!”
